The lighter colour of the lettering is achieved without the aid of paint; but through the natural reaction of the stone to the impact of the hard chisel. On the right you see an example of sandblasted lettering in grey granite. A deeply cut and burnished letter creates it's own interior shadow and yields a high level of contrast against the lighter grey granite WITHOUT the need for inks or paint which often need to be re-applied over time.
